Museu Imperial

Museu Imperial (Imperial Museum)

Opened in 1943, the Museu Imperial (Imperial Museum) is housed in the former Palácio Imperial de Petrópolis (Imperial Palace of Petrópolis), the summer residence of Dom Pedro II. It keeps a significant collection of the Brazilian Imperial period, including furniture, artwork and personal belongings of the members of the imperial family, especially the crown of Emperor Dom Pedro II. The palace is divided into two wings and a central hall with an upper floor, totalling 44 rooms that provide visitors both an introspective and vivacious immersion into a period of our history. It has a library with about 50,000 volumes and stores approximately 200,000 original documents.
