Museu de Valores do Banco Central do Brasil

Museu de Valores do Banco Central do Brasil (Money Museum - Brazil’s Central Bank)

Created by Brazil's Central Bank, the Museu de Valores (Money Museum) was opened in August 1972 in Rio de Janeiro. As well as the headquarters of the Central Bank, the museum was transferred to Brasília and the opening at the new headquarters took place in September 1981. In addition to coins and banknotes, the museum keeps titles, papers and objects (national and international) endowed with monetary value in their historical contexts. From the permanent exhibition the highlights are the Sala Brasil (Brazil Room), which gives us a journey through the different ways of payment and investment throughout Brazilian history, the Sala Ouro (Golden Room) and the Sala Fabricação do Dinheiro (Money Fabrication Room).
