Museu Aeroespacial (Aerospace Museum)

The Museu Aeroespacial (Aerospace Museum) keeps a collection of huge importance for Brazilian and global aviation history and is among the ten largest aviation museums in the world. It was established in 1973 and opened about three years later, after thoughtful restoration work of the building and hangars of the Divisão de Instrução de Voo (Flight Instruction Division), where the first Brazilian School of Aviation operated in 1914. There are many highlights in the collections: personal objects of Santos Dumont such as his document briefcase, costumes and pilot’s objects, glass and cellulose negatives from the old Escola de Aviação Militar (Military Aviation School) and Escola de Aeronáutica (Air Force School), as well as a replica of the Santos Dumont’s 14 BIS plane.
