Instituto Ricardo Brennand

Instituto Ricardo Brennand (Ricardo Brennand Institut)

Founded in 2002 by Ricardo Brennand, a collector from Pernambuco, the Institute stands out in the national and international scene as a major cultural centre of the Brazilian northeast. The complex Gothic medieval-style facilities include the Museu Castelo São João (Museum at the Castle of St. John), the Art Gallery and a Library. The museum keeps works of various origins, with pieces from the XV to the XXI centuries. One of the world’s most important collections of bladed weapons is kept there. In the Art Gallery, amid remarkable paintings, visitors can observe dozens of Franz Post paintings. It hosts a huge collection of sculptures of which stand out the Italian and French pieces made of marble.
