Fundação Memorial da América Latina

Memorial da América Latina (Latin America Memorial)

The Memorial da América Latina (Latin America Memorial) was created in 1989. The architectural project by Oscar Niemeyer is a space conceived by the anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro and was born of the desire to strengthen relationships between Latin American countries. The Pavilhão da Criatividade (Pavilion of Creativity) keeps a permanent collection of about 4,000 folk art pieces from Brasil, Mexico, Peru, Equator, Guatemala, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile and Uruguay. From masks to banners, musical instruments to metal sculptures, toys, religious props and ornaments, everything that helps portray and define Latin American identity is preserved in the Memorial.
